Action without Reaction
The Davison Warp-Drive
Forward motion without pushing mass backwards. |
|---|
Greetings:
Do you remember Kirk of Star-Trek fame? He would call down to the engine room of the space ship Enterprise and say: "Scotty, give me Warp Speed". Scotty would fire up the Warp Drives and away the Enterprise would go streaking across the Universe. Well, this was merely science fiction of that time - but it would not be fiction today because the first Warp Drive has been invented.
Newton's third law of motion goes something like: 'For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". This law is still valid, but we now have an exception, I have developed a process by which we can bypass this law of Newton's whenever we find it to our advantage to do so.
It will be to our advantage whenever we want to push a vehicle forward without being required to push mass in the backward direction. Currently all vehicles push on something in the backward direction in order to travel forward and most vehicles will continue to move like this, but some will change. As an example, consider a motorboat, its propeller pushes water in the backward direction. This causes the boat to move in the forward direction. Enter my invention installed inside the boat, now the boat does not need the outside propeller. Install a second unit inside and the boat will also not need an outside rudder.
While my invention may be used in boats and ships, the best use of my process will be to push space vehicles, because up in space there is nothing to push on, which will be no problem for my invention, because my invention is a mechanical propulsion system that does not need to push on anything - it is the ideal system for space travel.
The Extraterrestrials:
Space science needs an advanced propulsion system to get humans from Earth to other places in this solar systems in an acceptable timeframe. It is correct to call this lacking a major problem. Previous suggested propulsion systems have ranged from collecting space dust via a frontal funnel and then shooting the dust out the rear at high speeds, to passing atomic bombs out the rear and exploding them for the push of the blast wave - ouch. Currently NASA is working on an ION generator of high cost and low propulsion. If mankind is ever going to visit extraterrestrials it will need a better solution - I have that better solution because I am willing to bypass an apparent law of physics.
An Apparent Law of Physics:
Archimedes said: "Give me a place to stand and I will move the Earth". He knew that in order to push the Earth forward he would need to push backwards against something else - his place to stand. In order to push anything forwards we need to be able to push backwards against something else in return. This has been an apparent law of physics. The absolute obedience to this law has prevented space science from developing a mechanical means of pushing space vehicles, that is, until now. I have developed a new and useful process by which an electrically powered mechanical machine can deliver a force that will push a vehicle forward without the need to push backward against something else in return. Mankind can now bypass this apparent law of physics when it is useful to do so. Mankind will find it useful to do so in order to gain the ability to push space vehicles long distances.
I have an invention (patent pending) of a machine based on this process and it works, surprise surprise - it will push on itself and moves without the need to push against anything else - no pushing against my driveway nor pushing against the air, like I said, no pushing against anything. Exactly what is needed up in space because there is nothing in space to push against. I call this machine 'The Davison Warp-Drive'.
A stronger version of my invention would be the ideal propulsion system for any vehicle traveling through space. Think of an atomic powered submarine type vehicle up in space, it could travel for years.
Long space travel is only one use - there are more uses for my invention.
One: A manual powered device could be used as a backup way of bringing the shuttle out of orbit in case of a loss of power.
Two: A small handpowered unit could be used during spacewalks. If one spacewalker passed out and started to drift away, another spacewalker could give chase and bring him/her back to the shuttle.
Three: Levitation may be in the works, if not on the Earth, maybe on Mars, or at least on the Moon. On a Wired Science program, Peter Diamandis of X-Prizes spoke of the small amount of energy needed to get a person into orbit - $100 worth of electricity. Machines that give us levitation will be needed in order to approach that low amount of energy.
When my invention gets constructed out of all metal and stronger like the internal combustion engine, and able to rev up into the thousands of revolutions, then we will see if we cannot get levitation here on Earth.
When I developed this process, I opened up the door to a new branch of science in which scientist and engineers can now work. It will be interesting to see what they will do with Action without Reaction - are you ready for the Brave New World?
Drawing Number One:
This drawing shows one way in which reaction and backward pushing can be made to lag behind action and forward pushing. Two wheels are synchronized together by some means like gears or in the case of my model, friction contact of two rubber tires. The wheels have the same size weights attached to their rims. When we rotate the wheels, there will be a force to the right as the weights pass the 90 degree point of their rotation, likewise, when the weights pass the 270 degree point there is an equal and opposite force to the left. All the Y-Y components of forces cancel each other out.
When we mount the assembly on rollers there will be an action forward movement to the right followed by an equal and opposite reaction backward movement to the left. While there is no net gain in movement yet, the importance of this part of the invention is that backward reaction has been made to lag 180 degrees behind the forward action movement. This lag is the key to the process because it allows us enough time to remove most of the energy from the weights before they can create more than a little reaction and backward movement.
Drawing Number Two:
This drawing shows the addition of one means to remove the energy from the moving weights. In this drawing the moving weights engage levers that have springs attached to them. The energy of the moving weights is transferred to the springs, bringing the weights to a halt. The springs then pull back on the levers and return the energy to the weights by rotating them again, but now in the reverse direction.
Details and Comments of the Construction of the Davison Warp-Drive:
I only used one pair of rotating weights, but they only give one pulse of force every cycle, two pairs would be better, they would give a steady force if their movements are synchronized opposite in time to each other. When the two weights of a pair move, they always move in opposite directions. I have the two weights moving in the same plane, but with more pairs it would be best to have them move in parallel planes using the same center axis.
The weights are synchronized so that both weights will cross the 90 degree point at the same time, but in opposite directions. I used two bicycle type wheels to hold the weights. I felt the friction contact of the two tires would be good enough to keep the weights synchronized and this is true, but there is a small slipping of synchronization in time when the contact is also used to transmit power from one wheel to the other. It was a tradeoff, I avoided the cost and the matching of gears.
When the weights pass the 90 degree point, they produce a forward force in the plus X direction, but when they approach the 270 degree point the weights engage levers. My levers have elastic tie downs attached to them because I had them on hand, but springs will serve the purpose equally well, whatever is used, it should be strong enough to bring the weights to a halt before the 270 degree position. Halting the weights removes all the energy from the weights and leaves only a small reaction and backward movement.
The difference between forward and backward movement can be seen by a test of the device by hand. In the case of my working breadboard model, I placed rollers under the model so that it would be free to move forward or backwards. I then moved the weights so that they engaged the levers and pulled on the tie downs. I carefully let go of the weights and watched the movement of the model. When the weights crossed the 90 degree position the model moved forward about six inches, but the model only moved less than one half of an inch backwards when the weights were halted near the 270 degree position. The backward movement was reduced by as much as ninety percent in this test. The machine now has a net gain in the forward direction. The weights then reversed their rotation and created another forward movement at 90 degrees. This test proves that the model does produce forward motion with very little reaction and backward motion. The net result is motion without the required pushing backward on something else.
November 12, 2007 - The addition of a motor and its control:
It is all very well to test the machine by hand and see its movement forward - that is impressive, but a more impressive test comes when you add an electric motor and see continous movement.
The requirements of the motor and its electrical control circuit:
The job of the motor is to add energy to the rotating weights, but the motor must shut off when we want to remove all the energy from the weights and then come back on in the reverse direction when we again want to add energy to the weights.
My thinking is that my Action Process is merely one process of many dealing with action without reaction that have been waiting to be developed. I have developed one of them, maybe someone else will develope another, if so, maybe one that will be strong enough to give us levitation on Earth. This is a great big new field of science and I am the only one working in it as of now - I welcome others.
Thank you for looking,

September 24, 2007 - Photo of the first working Action Without Reaction Machine:
What you are looking at is the first working machine that produces a force in a controlled direction and reduces the counter force in the opposite direction to less than ten percent. The result is forward motion with very little backward motion, which means that the machine is able to move along without pushing backwards on anything, not the ground nor the air. Believe that this machine works, I have had this machine moving along my driveway without pushing on the driveway.

Letter to Archimedes
Good news Archimedes, today you would not need a place to stand in order to move the Earth. I have invented the necessary machine for you to move the Earth while standing on the Earth. January 12, 2008
